The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors approved the CMBA architectural services Contract for demolition of the old Law Enforcement Center Tuesday.
The contract allows CMB Architects to draw up plans and specifications for the demolition. The plans are expected to take 2 months to design.
Once the plans are approved by the board, the county will move forward with the bidding process.
The county supervisors in 2020 decided to stop pursuing costly repairs to the prior jail building and instead to build a new one.
The former jail was built across the street from the Woodbury County Courthouse in 1987.
The demolition itself is expected to take 3 months. Afterward, an additional two months will be needed to prepare the site to give back to the city.
The new county jail was opened on September 2024.
The contract costs $48,000.
