*At its meeting on Monday, the Sioux City Council moved forward with selecting Craig Clark as the next city manager. Clark currently serves as Executive Director of the City of Austin Port Authority in Minnesota.
The council authorized city staff to begin negotiating an employment contract with Clark. City staff will present the final agreement to the council for approval at a later date.
If negotiations are unsuccessful, staff will return to the council for further direction.
During his interview, Clark said he would spend his first 90 days meeting with constituents, stakeholders, and departments and immersing himself in the community.
Clark would replace former longtime city manager Bob Padmore, who retired in April.
More than 50 candidates applied for the position. The council narrowed the selection to four candidates, then to three after one candidate withdrew.
*The Sioux City Council addressed the vandalism at the soccer field on 28th Street, where someone had written Trump and other words, during Monday’s meeting.
Council member Alex Watters urged the public to report any suspicious activity and noted a rise in graffiti around the city.
Council member Matthew O’ Kane thanked the community members who helped clean up the soccer field.
Mayor Bob Scott expressed disappointment and said he plans to work with the Sioux City Police Department to offer a reward for information about the vandalism.
The Parks and Recreation department was working to restore the park on Monday.

*Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird says her 2026 reelection campaign is a pivotal race that supporters shouldn’t take for granted.
The first-term Republican currently does not have a primary challenger. Nate Willems, a lawyer and former state representative from Mount Vernon, is the Democratic candidate running against her.
Bird warned her supporters not to underestimate the race, saying Democrats are eager to regain the attorney general’s office.
In 2022 Bird was elected as attorney general, after defeating incumbent Democrat Tom Miller. She opted to campaign for reelection next year rather than running for governor.
She made her comments at a fundraising event for her reelection campaign.
