Omaha police say a 6-year-old Sioux City boy who was pulled from a wave pool at a waterpark has died. The unidentified boy was taken from the pool at Fun-Plex Waterpark Sunday after he went under the water. Police said he died on Wednesday. The boy's family said on a GoFundMe page that he was taken off life support after having no brain activity. Fun-Plex, which is located in the Omaha suburb of Ralston, has been closed since Sunday.

The U.S. Department of Justice will be funneling more resources toward addressing the alarming rate of disappearances and killings among Native Americans. The agency announced a new outreach program Wednesday. Five attorneys and five coordinators will be dispatched to several regions around the country to help with investigations of unsolved cases and related crimes. Their reach will span from New Mexico and Arizona to Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Michigan and Minnesota. The announcement came as a special commission gathered in Albuquerque for one of its final field hearings as it works to develop recommendations for addressing the crisis.

Nebraska’s senior Republican senator made her run for re-election official Wednesday morning in the state capitol rotunda.

Sen. Deb Fischer was elected to the seat in November 2012 after serving in the state legislature 2005 to 2013, and on a local school board before that.

She was re-elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018.

Iowans who need emergency contraception can now get it in the mail for free through the Family Planning Council of Iowa.

The free reproductive health kits contain generic emergency contraception, condoms and information on sexual health.

Iowans can obtain a kit by requesting it on the nonprofit's website or going to one of its clinics across the state, including Planned Parenthood in Sioux City.

The air quality in parts of eastern Iowa may be the worst it’s -ever- been today and residents are being warned to dig out their N-95 masks that were popular during the pandemic if they’re doing anything strenuous outside.

An environmental specialist in the Iowa DNR’s Air Quality Bureau tells Radio Iowa the levels of “very unhealthy” air being recorded are, in his words, “nearly unprecedented.” And, readings this high usually come from short-term spikes from fireworks around the Fourth of July.

Officials expect things to be clearer by tomorrow night.
