Newscast 11.28.22: Wintry weather on the way to Siouxland

Woodbury County is one seven NW Iowa counties that will experience wintry weather tomorrow. Forecasters say Iowa’s northwestern half on Tuesday will get 2-4 inches of snow and it will mean slow-going for traffic, along with a light glazing of ice.

The City of Sioux City Engineering Division is advising residents who have installed new sidewalks and/or driveways during the 2022 construction season to use sand (plain) for ice melt this winter. The use of sand follows guidance shared recently by The Iowa Concrete Paving Association regarding the harmful effects of deicer chemicals on new concrete pavements. The ICPA advises using plain sand during the first winter after new pavement has been installed to increase the life of a new sidewalk and/or driveway.

This recommendation also applies to sidewalks and driveways that were installed with a City project

The City Council will be asked today to approve a resolution authorizing the Parks and Recreation Department to accept a grant in the amount of $104,998 for the Big Sioux River Campground development project, according to the Sioux City Journal.

The grant funding from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be used to develop a campground on the north side of the Sioux City Railroad Museum, adjacent to the Big Sioux River.

The grant will support the purchase of more than 16 acres of land at the base of the First Bluffs of Loess Hills, between Sioux River Road and the Big Sioux River. The campground will offer 79 motorhome and trailer campsites, with the potential to serve between 316 and 474 campers. The site will also accommodate motorhomes, toy-haulers, teardrop campers, campervans, fifth-wheel trailers and popup campers.
