Western Iowa Tech Community College has an Upward Bound program under the Trio program.
Upward Bound is a program that helps high school students with academics and provide personal support.
Students meet with a coordinator who helps with academic advising, career planning, test preparation and more.
The students in the Upward Bound program talk about how Upward Bound helps them and what they like about it.
Upward Bound also has a six-week “college simulation” summer camp that allows students to take part in daily hands-on academic learning labs, as well as college campus visits, community service projects, ACT test prep sessions, career exploration, educational field trips, and cultural activities.
To participate in the program students must meet the following requirements: be enrolled in the 9th-12th grade at a service school, first generation college bound, US department of education income guidelines, and a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Katherine Lehmann, Director of Upward Bound program, talks about why the program is important for students to have.
