In 2016, the 100th anniversary of the U.S. National Park Service and the 75th anniversary of Mount Rushmore, led to a record $3.8 billion dollars in visitor spending in South Dakota. In fact, the Argus Leader reports there have been seven years of consecutive records in tourism earnings for the state.  Governor Dennis Daugaard and tourism officials say this year, early tourism tax earnings, hotel occupancy rates and search inquiries may portend another good year.  Daugaard says any additional visitor spending could help out withlow revenues ahead of the close of the fiscal year. Sales tax revenues underperformed last year, leading budget cuts.  For Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.
