In a press release issued Wednesday evening, Sioux City Council member Matthew O’Kane announced he will not seek re-election.

O’Kane’s decision follows similar announcements from fellow council members Alex Watters and Dan Moore, who also confirmed that they will not run for another term.

In the press release, O’Kane said it was not a decision he made lightly and that he is proud of the work he accomplished with his fellow council members.

“I will continue to advocate for the citizens of Sioux City, and I will vow to help hold local leaders accountable and ensure that elected officials are transparent with citizens," said O’Kane.

John Den Beste, Nick Davidson, Rick Bertrand, and Craig Bernstein are running for Sioux City Council.

Ike Rayford told us that he will make his candidate announcement at 10:30 a.m. Thursday outside the Sioux City Convention Center downtown.

Filing for Sioux City Council ends today.
