Iowa and Woodbury County COVID-19 Cases Rise

Iowa today reported its highest single-day increase in COVID-19 deaths, topping the mark set one week ago. Woodbury County topped 10,00o coronavirus cases.
The Iowa Department of Public Health today reports another 47 additional deaths due to COVID-19. In total, 2,271 people with COVID-19 have died in Iowa, according to the state's Coronavirus.Iowa.gov website. There have been nearly 220 thousand positive cases.
In Woodbury County, there have been 49 cases added to the total case count.
According to Siouxland District Health, the county now has reached more than 10 thousand cases of the coronavirus and 96 deaths.
Since the pandemic arrived in March, more than 218 thousand people have tested positive, and another 3,365 coronavirus cases have been reported since yesterday. Iowa hospitals are struggling with the coronavirus surge.

Iowa Workforce Development is reporting that 9,458 workers filed new claims for unemployment benefits last week. That's an increase of more than 3,000 from the week before and the most in one week since July.
Manufacturing and construction were the industries with the most claims.
The number of Iowans who are continuing to receive unemployment benefits also increased to more than 37,000.

The historically close race for Iowa's 2nd Congressional District seat could be approaching a tie. Democrat Rita Hart has cut Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks' lead to 35 votes out of more than 394,400 cast, with all but three of the district's 24 counties reporting the results of their recounts. The race is the closest in the nation,
