Taylor Runs for Supervisor Again; COVID Cases Up in Iowa; 800th Death

Noon news 072220

Jeremy Taylor is once again running for a seat on the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors.  He resigned his seat in January over a dispute about the location of his legal residence.

Yesterday, county Republicans nominated Taylor to go before voters in November, in another of the five supervisor districts.

Taylor was selected by acclamation by a special Republican County panel, to be the party's nominee for a seat on the county Board of Supervisors in District 3. That seat is currently held by Marty Pottebaum, a Democrat from Sioux City who is running for re-election.

No Republican filed by the primary election deadline late March for the county board District 3 or county auditor positions. However, Iowa election laws say entrants can later get on the ballot, as county political parties have until Aug. 26 to hold special conventions to name a nominee.

Siouxland District Health says Woodbury County has 10 new COVID-19 cases.

The SDHD also reported no additional virus-related deaths, keeping the county's death toll at 46.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says there have been 3,483 positive COVID-19 cases in the county since the pandemic began.

In the state of Iowa there are 17 additional cases today for a total of 39,420 cases, and an additional death which means Iowa has reached the 800 mark for deaths from COVID-19.

South Dakota had 76 more cases for a total of 8,019 cases of the coronavirus, and 118 deaths, there were no additional deaths today.

Nebraska gained 343 cases of the virus for a total of 23, 190, and 310 deaths, with no additional deaths.
