Iowa Posts New High for Coronavirus Cases in a 24-Hour Period; Adds 18 Deaths

The state of Iowa has posted has posted a new high for new coronavirus cases in a 24 hour period.  830 new Coronavirus have been confirmed since yesterday morning. with a total 36, 886 cases.  There were 18 new deaths from the virus, which is the largest one day total since June 2. 

The number of deaths, hospitalizations and patients admitted to intensive care were all rising.

In Woodbury County, there has been one new death due to COVID-19. The county’s coronavirus death toll is 46. The Siouxland District Health Department said a woman who was age 81 or older died from the virus. It was the second day in a row Woodbury County recorded a COVID-19-related death.

There were 14 new cases of the virus reported today in Woodbury County. There have been 3,391 cases. 

In South Dakota, there have been 80 more cases reported today, and two more deaths.  The state has a total of 7652 cases of coronavirus and 111 deaths. Those two cases were in Union County.

In Nebraska today, there are 262 new cases of COVID 19 and five new deaths.  The state has a total of 21, 979 confirmed cases and 291 deaths.  Dakota County had four new cases of the virus today and two new deaths. 

The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office says the 12-year-old boy involved in a swimming accident at Little Sioux Park has passed away.  When rescue crews arrived on the scene Tuesday afternoon CPR was being performed on the child.  He was flown to MercyOne where he later died.  This is the third drowning in northwest Iowa this summer.  The boy's name has not been released.
