Information provided by Woodbury County Election Commissioner Pat Gill:

Woodbury County Voters Get it

Woodbury County Auditor & Recorder/Commissioner of Elections Pat Gill asked voters who wanted to participate in a special election to fill a vacancy on the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors to, “Stay at Home and Vote at Home”.  The overwhelming response has been positive.  For a special election, the rule of thumb for turnout is around 10% which would be around 5,700 voters.   9,246 ballots have been requested and  3,133 have been returned for this election that was postponed until July 7, 2020.  Request forms continue to come in and will accepted up until June 26, 2020 for this election and ballots returned must be postmarked the day before the Election or hand delivered before the polls close on Election Day.

The June 2, 2020 Primary Election

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate has declared there will be no postponement of the Primary Election and plans to mail Absentee Ballot Request forms to over two million voters statewide encouraging voters to vote at home during the current pandemic.   Woodbury County will do the same and continue to press the message to, “Stay at Home and Vote at Home.”

Dropbox Available

A drop box has been installed on the north side of the Courthouse just to the left of the main entrance.  Voters can drop both their completed Absentee Request Forms or their voted Absentee Ballots in this secure receptacle.

Curbside Assistance

Access to the Courthouse is limited by appointment only.  With the cooperation of the City of Sioux City, there are two parking spaces available on the north side of the Courthouse available for voters.  Absentee voting at the commissioner’s office will provided in this manner.  We ask that only voters who need curbside assistance or access to an assistive device use this service.  Voters can call us at 712-279-6465 upon their arrival and we will assist them with their needs.  Voting curbside will begin May 4, 2020 for the Primary Election and June 8, 2020 for the Special election.

Election Day

For the Primary Election on June 2, 2020, there will only be two polling places open.  Voters in Sioux City precincts 1-28, will be assigned to Augustana Lutheran Church, 600 Court Street, Sioux City.  All other Woodbury County voters, precincts 29-44, will be assigned to the Woodbury County Public Safety Building, 121 Deer Run Trail, Climbing Hill.  To avoid an unhealthy gathering of people at the polling places, we are asking only voters who cannot vote at home to vote on Election Day.  We will be strictly adhering to social distancing measures and using rigorous cleaning and disinfection methods at the polling places.  Again, we want voters to protect themselves and our Precinct Election Officials and to please, prior to Election Day, “Stay at Home and Vote at Home”.
