Candidates Set for the 2020 Election in Woodbury County

The contenders are ready in the race for Woodbury County Sheriff and three Supervisor seats. 

The filing deadline for candidates ended at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24.

Two Republicans are running to replace Sheriff Dave Drew who didn’t seek re-election.

Todd Wieck, is a major with the sheriff’s office and will face-off with Chad Sheehan a retired Sioux City Police Officer who operates a consulting firm in school and business safety and security.  They face off in a primary on June 2.

Here are the match-ups for Supervisor.  There will be no primary so all the candidates will compete in the general election in November.

In District 1, current Supervisor Keith Radig is running for his second term in office.

The Republican will be joined on the ballot by Democrat Kevin McCormick, a retired Sioux City police officer.

Another retired officer, Democrat Marty Pottebaum is running unopposed in District 3 for his second term in office.

For District 5, incumbent Rocky De Witt plans to run again.  The Republican and former employee of MidAmerican Energy was first elected in 2016.  His Democratic challenger is the former leader of Woodbury County social services Patty Erickson-Puttman.  Erickson-Puttman reached a settlement with the county after filing a sexual discrimination and retaliation lawsuit.  She left her post last year.

And, there’s one more election, One for the person in charge of local elections.  No one is running against Pat Gill who is seeking his 7th, four-year term in office for Auditor and Recorder.  The Democrats been in office since 1996.

There is also a special election in July for Supervisor in District 2 after Jeremy Taylor stepped down. 

Two candidates are vying for the seat; Democratic State Representative Tim Kacena and Republican Justin Wright, a teacher at North High.
