Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds delivered her condition of the state address this morning at the Iowa State House. Reynolds unveiled the “Invest in Iowa Act”. The move would increase the sales tax by one percent and lower others.
“I’m proposing to cut income tax by an additional 10 percent for almost every Iowan, with lower-income Iowans receiving as much as a 25 percent cut.”
Reynolds also proposes reducing county property taxes. The state would help pick up the cost of mental health services.
Plus, she wants to change state law to use $100 million from the Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation Trust for water quality improvement.
Some other proposals included improving flood relief, more funding for K-12 schools, criminal justice reform and voter rights for felons.
Reynolds also says she is focused on the overall wellness of all Iowans, in all stages of life.
“We must protect live by making it clear, through an amendment, that our constitution does not grant a right an abortion.”
Reynolds also proposed a fellowship program for new doctors who want to specialize in OB care. Plus, she wants the state to launch a telementoring system so OBs can consult with physicians across the states.
“We must do more to promote and support maternal health.”
Plus, Reynolds wants to expand early childhood tax credits. Currently, they are available to families making $45,000 or less. The governor wants to double that amount to $90,000.
Reynolds says she plans to make the next decade Iowa’s best with bold and visionary initiatives.
