Democratic Candidates to Campaing in NW Iowa This Weekend

110719 304

Three Democratic presidential candidates will be visiting Sioux City starting tomorrow.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, and Colorado Senator Michael Bennet will make appearances.

Vermont US Senator Bernie Sanders (D)

Klobuchar will speak at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at Townsquare Coffeehouse and Kitchen, in Orange City.  Saturday at 9:00 a.m., Klobuchar will be at the Sioux City Public Library to take part in a Woodbury County Democratic Party caucus training event.

Colorado US Senator Michael Bennet (D)

At 5:45 p.m. Friday, Bennet will speak in a meet-and-greet event at Jackson Street Brewing.   Bernie Sanders will speak at noon Sunday in Sioux County at Prairie Winds Event Center in Orange City.

Sanders is expected to talk about how the proposed Green New Deal could drive economic growth and create good-paying jobs in rural Iowa.

Senator Joni Ernst says the White House may still step in to demand that the EPA honor an agreement reached on ethanol policy between President Donald Trump and farm-state lawmakers.

Last month, the EPA proposed increasing the ethanol mandate to make up for waivers granted to small oil refineries. But Ernst says the agency used a formula that may not restore all of the demand that was lost through the waivers.

Ethanol groups say small refinery waivers are responsible for reducing ethanol demand by about 4 billion gallons over the last few years. The EPA proposal is still in the comment stage.
