Republican US Senator Joni Ernst is refusing to pass judgment possible wrongdoing by President Donald Trump but said yesterday Congress needs to investigate any allegations of corruption. Ernst was at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City yesterday morning, talking with high school students about leadership.

Ernst was asked about the possible impeachment of the president.  She said the Senate Intelligence Committee will take the process seriously because all forms of corruption need to be exposed.

I’m not saying that would be this case, but I’m saying because it’s been pointed out, um, I don’t care who, what, where, when, if there’s corruption,  we should be fighting that.

Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for impeachment proceedings to investigate the circumstances surrounding President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine’s president.   A whistleblower exposed a July phone call where Trump allegedly pressed the Ukrainian president to investigate Democratic political rival Joe Biden and his family. Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

And, Sioux City native Shelby Houlihan made it through the semi-finals at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Houlihan took second in her heat with a time of 4:14.

She’ll run in the finals on Saturday.  The race will also feature former Iowan Jenny Simpson who had the fastest time in the semi-finals today.  Houlihan is a graduate of Sioux City East High School and has competed in the Olympics as well as several other world championships.
