Woodbury County officials say they want to move ahead with planning for a possible new county jail. The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors meets today to pass a motion to set a Sept. 17thdeadline for financial advisor firms to submit proposals to consult on the project.

Twenty-seven-year-old Taylor Goodvin has announced plans to run for the Sioux City Community School Board. He previously worked as director of the Woodbury County Taxpayers Research Council and as an education policy advisor for U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, and now works as a business operations analyst.

Board member Miyuki Nelson and challengers Dan Greenwell and Monique Scarlett are also running for one of the four open seats on the board in the November election.

The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is celebrating the 25thanniversary of Ho Chunk, Inc. this week.

Lance Morgan, a Winnebago Tribal citizen and founder, president, and CEO of Ho Chunk, Inc. says since 1994, the company’s approach has evolved to support the economy and the growth of the middle class.

Homeownership jumped, poverty levels dropped. But you have to understand something about us.  Three hundred of our housing units are reserved for low-income people. So we have a built-in poverty base to those statistics.  So it is very hard to move the needle on those things.

Ho Chunk, Inc. is holding an anniversary celebration tomorrow at the Land of Wellness, an outdoor sports complex, on the south side of Winnebago from 4-7 p.m.  Ho Chunk, Inc. is an underwriter of Siouxland Public Media.
