Biden to Campaign in Siouxland this Week, Along with Other Caucus Rivals, 5:04

Former Vice President Joe Biden will spend much of the coming week talking about his approach to health care.  He will be Le Mars tomorrow afternoon and in Sioux City tomorrow night.

Today,  Biden has unveiled a plan that would add a "public option" to the 2010 health care overhaul known as "Obamacare," with expanded coverage paid for by raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans. Biden hopes his positioning as Obamacare's chief defender helps him on several fronts.

Despite this latest announcement, Biden’ssupport in the latest Hill-HarrisX poll of Democratic voters has fallen below 30 percent, his lowest mark in the survey so far.

The poll, released today, found that 29 percent of likely Democratic primary voters support Biden as their first choice for president, while 16 percent back Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

This marks a 4-point drop for Biden from an identical poll onducted two weeks ago and immediately following the first 2020 Democratic debates.

Other candidates in Siouxland this week include Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren who has scheduled a Town Hall at Morningside College for Thursday night.  That same evening, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker plans to discuss environmental justice at an event at the downtown Sioux City Public Library.

On Friday, at the Sioux City Convention Center from 2 to 4 p.m., AARP is holding a candidate forum.  The presidential candidates expected to take part are Warren, Marriane Williamson, Beto O’Rourke and Andrew Yang.
