Legislative advocates for reforming Iowa’s medical cannabis program say today they will keep fighting for much-needed reforms vetoed by Governor Kim Reynolds.
Democratic State Senator Joe Bolkum of Iowa City said he and others called on their Republican colleagues asking for a special session to overturn what he called the misguided veto of modest improvements to Iowa medical cannabis program.

“We need to get to work right away on fixing our law. Today we call for an interim study committee to begin right away, to begin legislation for the 2020 legislative session. Gov. Reynold and Republicans can’t solve this problem behind closed doors.”
The Republican governor earlier this year vetoed an expansion of the medical cannabis program that lawmakers approved with bipartisan support at the end of the 2019 legislative session.
Economic growth will continue over the next three to six months in nine Midwest and Plains states, according to a June survey of business supply managers.
The report issued today says the Mid-America Business Conditions Index rose to 55.4 last month from 54.3 in May. The April figure was 55.9.
Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey, and he says "weak farm income, produced partially by tariffs and flooding, pulled regional growth below that of the nation."
The survey results are compiled into a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests growth. The survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
