Tulip Festival Opens, Iowa Lawsuit Against Opioid Maker, 5:32

Rural bankers say they are slightly less confident about the economy than they were last month.  That’s according to The Rural Mainstreet survey for May. The survey's confidence index, is at its lowest level in almost two years.

The report released today shows the survey's overall index dropping from 50 in April to 48.5 this month. Any score above 50 suggests a growing economy, while a score below 50 indicates a shrinking economy.

Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey, and he is blaming trade tensions and tariffs for the decline.

The 79th annual Tulip Festival is underway in Orange City, Iowa.

The community showcases Dutch Heritage with a parade, food, authentic costumes and of course the tulips.  And, this year wasn’t the best for growing the town’s favorite flower.

4:12 “Unexpectedly doing well because of the weather we have had.  In the last few days we have had good weather so they are opening up and have good color.”

That’s the owner of the Tulip Town Bulb Company, Keri Drescher.

She estimates there are 100,000 tulips in Orange City.  Some still haven’t bloomed yet but could within the next two days.
