As United Healthcare prepares to leave Iowa at the end of June, state Medicaid director Michael Randol says the department is working to ensure a smooth transition for Medicaid recipients currently enrolled with that company.
Randol says United Healthcare will not leave the state before June 30th and will be responsible for all claim until then. Medicaid recipients affected by its departure will be mailed notification this week. Healthcare company Iowa Total Care is set to join the state’s Medicaid program on July 1.
Iowans consider health care, education and elected officials are the most important issues for Iowans, according to a new poll conducted by Morningside College and the Col Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement. The poll also looked at issues like the legalization of marijuana and immigration policy. Morningside associate professor of political science Valerie Hennings says Iowans are split on those issues and support a strong path to citizenship and improving security measures, but not the wall.

“We did pick up the opposition, 50% of our respondents said they opposed expanding funding to build the wall along the Mexican U-S borders.”
Hennings and her students presented the poll results this today at Morningside College.
