Welcome to The Exchange, on Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.

Hunger or food insecurity is an issue in every community in Siouxland.  Yesterday in Storm Lake, representatives from food banks and other organizations gathered at Buena Vista University to talk about the problems of food insecurity and how each group is addressing it.  Regina Hurte is the executive director of the Iowa Food Bank Association. She talked to attendees at the food insecurity summit about how the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP works, and the many variables that affect the food program.

This time of year as students look forward to going away to college, they also are thinking about how to finance their education. A big part of that is filling out the FAFSA.

Jennifer Schroeder is a financial aid expert at Iowa State University.  She explains how FAFSA Application works, and also describes some other opportunities to gain money for college.
