This week on The Exchange, we preview the Sioux City International Film Festival, which begins Thursday, September 30th and runs through Sunday, October 3rd.

First, we hear from the editor, owner and publisher of the Storm Lake Times, Art Cullen. The Pullitzer Prize winning paper is featured in a new documentary that is being featured at the festival. We speak with three filmmakers with three filmmakers who have had films in the Sioux City International Film Festival. We speak with Michaela Wadzinski, who graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 2015, and went ot to the University of Nebraska Lincoln. A few years ago, she received high praise from one of Sioux City’s most famous directors and animators. She is an artist, animator and filmmaker, among other things.

We also speak with Dr. Michael White of Wayne State College. He teaches television and video production, electronic media, and other mass communication courses. This year, White’s short film called A Day With Lillie is being shown in the drama category.  I talked with White about the film program at Wayne State, some of the films that have come out of the program, and his own films as well.

Siouxland Public Media has a connection to the creative side of the Sioux City International Film Festival. Iowa Basement Tapes airs late on Friday night, and it is hosted by the talented Kristian Day.

Day lives in central Iowa and he also works in the film industry. Day has released a short film that will be featured this weekend during the film festival.

We also get a preview of this weekend's Riverssance from organizer Phil Claeys. Riverssance was cancelled last year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
