The Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum

We hear from several of the candidates at this week’s Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum in Sioux City at the Orpheum Theater Monday and Tuesday, August 19 and 20. 

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren apologized for her mistaken belief that she was truly part native American. She also talked about the need to take on the tragedy of missing and murdered indigenous native American women.

Also, the only Native American presidential candidate mark Charles was one of many candidates at the forum to ask for the government to rescind medals given to US army soldiers in the way of the Wounded Knee massacre.

As another school year starts we take a look at some innovative ideas in education.  Hastings College in Nebraska has totally revamped its curriculum and how students earn credits, by adding in studying abroad teaching students critical thinking and using problem-based learning. We talk with the school's president Travis Freezell.

The Sioux City Community School district starts another year this week, celebrating a brand new Bryant Elementary School and the success of it's dual-language program.  And we learn about the dual language program that begins this week for pre-K and kindergarten students in the Bishop Heelan School system.  We talk with Sacred Heart School principal Kate Coneally.
