Water levels continue to slowly recede on the Missouri River and Big Sioux River, easing flooding worries in the region.

Union County Emergency Manager Andy Minihan said Monday that agencies are watching levees along rivers. Many levees over a 350-mile stretch remain damaged from severe flooding in the spring, allowing the floodwaters to flow into many farm fields and rural areas.

Tonight, a special event is being held to educate the community about the dangers of social media.

The trial for a homeless man accused of killing a former Iowa State University female golfer has been moved to northeast Iowa. A judge today agreed to set trial for the Winneshiek County Courthouse in Decorah on Sept. 10.

Twenty-two year old Collin Richards was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Celia Barquín Arozamena.  She was the 2018 Big 12 Conference women's golf champion and Iowa State Female Athlete of the Year. The civil engineering student was found dead with multiple stab wounds Sept. 17 at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.

e Woodbury County Board of Supervisors is planning to lobby Iowa lawmakers to adopt legislation that would help deal with jail overcrowding caused by incarcerating offenders guilty of multiple drunk driving offenses.  Siouxland Public Media’s Mary Hartnett has more.

About two-thirds of Woodbury County Jail inmates are there for alcohol related offenses. The 24/7 program would keep them out of jail while submitting to two breathalyzer tests per day.
