Today I'm recommending the children’s picture book Aggie and the Ghost, written and illustrated by Matthew Forsythe. Do you ever wonder what it’d be like to live with a ghost? Well, Aggie might tell you that it’s not always so fun.
Aggie thought she would live alone. As it turns out, there’s a ghost that haunts her new place. But this ghost is like an annoying sibling or a messy roommate – it haunts her after dark, steals her socks, and won’t leave her alone. She tries to set rules, but it’s not good at following them. Aggie is so sure that with more and more rules, and maybe even an intense game of Tic-Tac-Toe, the ghost will listen... or leave. But what happens when she finally gets her wish?
Though it features a ghost, this is a perfect, not-so-scary story. With soft and moody illustrations and charming characters, if you enjoy Matthew Forsythe’s other quirky and amusing stories, like Mina and Pokko and the Drum, you will definitely find this book to be another silly read. Learning how to compromise, share, and work with others can feel very challenging, especially when you’re living under the same roof. But understanding the value in those who are different from you can bring even the most mismatched people and ghosts together.
