Jeremy Taylor is once again running for a seat on the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors. That seat is currently held by Marty Pottebaum, a Democrat from Sioux City running for re-election.
Taylor resigned his seat in January over a dispute about the location of his legal residence.
One of the first coronavirus outbreaks at an Iowa meatpacking plant was more severe than previously known. The Iowa Department of Public Safety says today that twice as many workers were becoming infected.
On May 5, the department said that 221 employees at the Tyson Foods pork processing plant in Columbus Junction had tested positive for COVID-19. However, Tyson officials told workplace safety regulators days before that 522 plant employees had tested positive to their knowledge.
More than 800 people with COVID-19 in Iowa have died, as the state reported ten more deaths today, and an additional 374 confirmed coronavirus cases. At 10 a.m. today, the state reported 808 COVID-19-related deaths, an increase of 10 deaths since yesterday, according to the state's Coronavirus.Iowa.gov website. Iowa has reported 39,793 cases of the novel coronavirus as of today.
In Northwest Iowa, Woodbury County has tallied 3,493 cases and 46 deaths. Buena Vista County 1,758 cases and 12 deaths.
Nebraska has accounted for 23,190 covid-19 cases and 310 deaths. Dakota County had 1,842 cases and 41 deaths.
South Dakota has tallied 8,019 cases and 118 deaths. Union County has 116 cases. Yankton and Union counties have each recorded two deaths.
