South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem warns up to 30% of the state could become infected with the corona virus.

“Our population could get sick that is literally 10’s of thousands of people in our state.”

On Monday morning, she announced seven more cases in the state for a total of 28.  One patient died and three are currently hospitalized.

Noem says that’s a sign the illness is spreading.

“Now, I understand that is scary for some of you.  But, remember more than  80% of infections are a-symptomic or cause mild illnesses.”

The governor plans to issue an emergency order Monday afternoon to provide guidance to businesses, hospitals and communities to deal with the pandemic.

But she also says that state law is not clear on the emergency powers she has.

“We need to make smart decisions.  Where are today has been proactive.  The actions we have done today is working, but we still have a long ways to go.”

Noem says information from the CDC shows infections in South Dakota could increase until May or June.
