It a very hot and humid day in Siouxland and most of Iowa is under an excessive heat warning, where temperatures will reach in the 90s and heat index values could be as high as 110 degrees.

The National Weather Service says the heat warning is for the southern two-thirds of the state under Highway 20.

Many areas are reporting damage after powerful thunderstorms blew through southeastern South Dakota early Wednesday morning.

Tornado warnings were issued in the early hours of Wednesday morning for several cities, including Armour, Parkston, Tripp, Delmont, Alcester, and Wakonda. Other areas were under severe thunderstorm warnings until 7:15 a.m., including Yankton, Vermillion, Harrisburg, and Beresford.

Governor Kim Reynolds has again declined to explain why she asked the head of Iowa’s social services agency to resign last month.

The Associated Press has reported former Department of Human Services Director Jerry Foxhoven sent his employees an email about the late rapper Tupac Shakur’s birthday the Friday before Reynolds asked him to resign.

Reynolds was asked if Foxhoven’s emails to staff about Tupac were a factor in her asking for Foxhoven’s resignation.  She said there were many factors, and that she didn't even know who Tupac Shakur was.  Reynolds has repeatedly declined to say what those factors are, even though state law says agencies must release the reasons for employees resigning in lieu of termination
