Fire Near Sturgis Motocycle Ralley Being Contained;

Firefighters have contained a wildfire which burned southwest of Sturgis, as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally continues. The U.S. Forest Service says crews will continue to patrol and mop up following containment of the Kirk Hill fire. Smoke is expected for the next several days. The fire burned approximately 80 acres. The FDA has granted emergency approval for some people to receive a third dose of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines for COVID.  Siouxland District Health’s Tyler Brock says while that’s an important decision, it’s only one step in the process.  Brock says more information will be coming soon. This week the Iowa Deparment of Public Health reported that 41% of Woodbury County’s population was fully vaccinated, last week it was 40.7%.  

North Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff are among the fastest-growing cities in the metro area, according to new Census Bureau data and the Sioux City Journal.

North Sioux City's population increased by 512, or roughly 20%, between 2010 and 2020. Sergeant Bluff's population is up nearly 19% over the decade. 

A Polk County judge heard arguments today in the case of two transgender Iowans arguing that gender-affirming surgeries should be covered under the state’s Medicaid program. The Iowa Supreme Court previously ruled against that regulation. But the legislature later amended the Iowa Civil Rights Act to ban public insurance programs from paying for the surgery.
