Welcome to What’s The Frequency, our longform Siouxland Public Media show that since January has been keeping tabs on the Siouxland state legislatures.
That includes monthly updates on the Iowa Legislature.
In this case, this is the fourth monthly show visiting with lawmakers on the latest updates as bills on such topics as health care, taxation, education at the K-12 and college levels get introduced, killed or keep moving in the two chambers.
The two lawmaker guests are Democrat Catelin Drey, a first term state senator from Sioux City, and Republican state representative Jacob Bossman, of Sioux City.
The session is going into extra days, perhaps up to May 1, and there is a greater drive to wrap up, since the per diem payments to the state lawmakers ended a few days ago.
But before that can happen, Bossman said, the final major tasks are passing FY 2027 spending bills, changes to property taxes in the state, and if restrictions on the use of eminent domain powers by government will be put in place.
They also discuss the best and worst bills passed so far, what steps may help families in battling inflation, grades they would give to the entire session and share thoughts on thec2024 midterm elections.
