Two high-profile educational leadership positions in Sioux City are open, and will take major steps forward next week towards hiring people.
Western Iowa Tech Community College will announce the next president of the institution sometime next week, perhaps as early as Monday, April 27. The search began when Terry Murrell announced his retirement earlier this school year.
In early April, three forums were held for the candidates to provide information about themselves and how they will address issues the college is facing.
The two finalists are Dr. Terry Gaalswyk, president of Minnesota West Community and Technical College, and Dr. Terry Lindsay, a current official in Georgia. Dr. Michelle Allmendinger was also a finalist; however, since her forum, she has been hired at another college.
Additionally, the Sioux City School Board will hold forums on Wednesday for the three finalists for the superintendent position.
Candidates Dr. Tim Miller, Dr. Will Pickens, and interim superintendent Jim Vanderloo all have backgrounds in education, with Vanderloo having been a part of the school district for the past 34 years.
Each candidate will have an hour to answer questions and speak with community members. The next superintendent is expected to be announced sometime in May.
A year ago, the board hired Juan Cordova of Missouri as superintendent, but after being placed on two leaves of absence, he resigned.
