For this episode of What’s The Frequency, there has been a lot of discussion over the last two months about the Sioux City Public Library system.

There were some proposals by Sioux City Council members Julie Schoenherr and Rick Bertrand to cut the $3.8 million library budget by 25 percent, which resulted in a lot of people to go to council meetings to speak against such cuts.

Through all those meetings about the city budget, a lot of attention came to the library system. That resulted in the Sioux City Library Board of Directors joining the public discussion with a press conference and speaking out in other meetings.

One overlooked aspect during that saga is that Sioux City Public Library Director Helen Rigdon is retiring.

So for this What’s The Frequency show, library board member Jim Wharton discusses the process of hiring the next director, plus other greater issues on the state of the library in the aftermath of the budget battle.

By the way, this is the 100th episode of What's The Frequency. It follows in a similar vein as last week when, as part of National Reading Month, Sioux City librarians discuss value of reading, trends & how to nab reluctant readers.
