This What's The Frequency show is one I've wanted to do since last year, when I saw how many people were flocking to the Missouri Riverfront area of Sioux City on many weekday evenings and other times.

What is drawing them?

City of Sioux City officials, through a combination of city budget money, grants and fundraising, in 2024 finished a big project of pieces costing $12 million.

The diversity of options is very broad, and those are segmented, from north to south, in Community Spaces, Everyday Places and Embrace The River.

Located on the former site of the Argosy Casino along the Missouri River, the project includes park spaces for small and large family/community gatherings, event spaces, native plantings, active recreation areas, fitness stations, three park shelters, restroom facilities, two basketball courts, a dog park for both small and large dogs, play equipment for ages 2-12, and enhancements to the recreational trail system.

So I spent an hour on the riverfront for an hour, walking and talking with a host of people who were enjoying themselves among such pieces as a splash pad, playground pieces, dog park, and more. Those people included Brittany Saunsoci, Johni Jenkins, Charryse, Genesis and Lucas Pirigyi, Pablo Guardiola, and Maurice Leflore.

The city's website explains, "This transformational project fully activates the area with access from Interstate 29 and Downtown Sioux City."
