The Exchange 10.18.23: Siouxland Public Media's Bret Hayworth questions Sioux City School Board hopefuls in candidate forum

Today on The Exchange we bring you a League of Women Voters of Sioux City School Board candidate forum held Monday evening at Western Iowa Tech Community College. Siouxland Public Media’s Bret Hayworth is one of the panelists questioning the 11 candidates for five school board seats.

The candidates are:

  • Margo Cortez, a Sioux City graduate who works for the Omaha Nation Public School in Macy, Nebraska
  • Lance Ehmcke, a retired attorney from Heidman Law Firm
  • Semehar Ghebrekidan, the community inclusion liaison for the City of Sioux City
  • Dan Greenwell, a school board member and business owner
  • Treyla Lee, a Sioux City native who works as an adoption recruiter
  • Phill Hamman a current school board member and former East High teacher
  • John Meyers, who served on the Sioux City School Board for eight years
  • Dustin Rhoades, founder of Ability Tech Foundation, a company that creates custom adaptive technology for individuals with disabilities
  • Trisha Rivers, the Siouxland Project Director for Great Plains Action Society, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization
  • Earl Miller, a small business owner and management consultant.

Wednesday marks the first day Iowans can begin early voting for the upcoming city and school elections November 7th.

Those who want to vote early in person can do so at their county auditor’s office.

This is also the first day that county auditors will begin mailing out absentee ballots to those who have requested them.

Absentee ballot request forms are available at voter ready dot Iowa dot gov. Iowans have until next Monday to request one by mail.

County auditors must receive absentee ballots by 8 p.m on Election Day, which is November 7th, in order for them to be counted.
