This week on The Exchange we look ahead to the 50th anniversary of RAGBRAI in Sioux City, where it all started in 1973.

We also talk with Tom Munson of the Sioux City Public Museum about some special events this weekend at the Warrior Hotel. Friday evening Munson will explore the history of brewing in Sioux City, and Saturday night attendees will go atop the Warrior to learn about the city's skyline.

And the National Music Museum in Vermillion, SD is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. I talk with the museum’s director Dwight Vaught about the history of the museum and its future. The museum is unveiling a its glorious renovation. A celebration and open house takes place Saturday, August 26.

We also talk with the editors of a new book that celebrates the science, beauty, and lore of the Loess Hills. On Common Ground is a compilation first brought to life in the Loess Hills. The editors are Ryan Allen and Brian Hazlett.
Allen is a writer, artist, advocate and coach. He was the editor for the Voices of the Great Plains of The Briar Cliff Review. He is also the co-owner and chief executive of Lumen Therapy, Inc.
Hazlett is a Briar Cliff University Professor of Biology and Environmental Science and the BCU director of the Center for Prairie Studies. The book includes the work of artists, writers and scientists that gathered for a weekend at Camp Joy Hollow in the Loess Hills in the fall of 2021.
