On November 8th, Iowans will head to the polls to decide local and statewide races. There are two women on the ballot for Governor, Incumbent Republican Kim Reynolds, who is seeking her second term in office, and Democrat Deirdre DeJear, a small business owner, Drake graduate, and candidate for Secretary of State in 2018.
The two faced off in their only debate this election cycle on Iowa PBS Monday, October 17th.
Last week’s edition of the Exchange focused on a League of Women Voters forum with local candidates running for Iowa Statehouse. Only the Democratic incumbents took part: State Representative Steve Hanson and State Senator Jackie Smith. Smith’s Republican challenger, Rocky Dewitt, says he could not participate in the forum due to a scheduling conflict.

This week’s edition of The Exchange also features highlights from a League of Women Voters forum at Western Iowa Tech Community College on October 11th.

Woodbury County Supervisor (District 2): Dan Bittinger (R) and Jeremy Dumkrieger (D)
Woodbury County Attorney: PJ Jennings (D) and James Loomis (R)

Matthew Ung is running unopposed in District 4. Another uncontested race is for Woodbury County Treasurer. Republican Tina Bertrand is seeking her first full term after being appointed to the post after the retirement of former Treasurer Mike Clayton.
