People signed up to vote in a Sioux City event during National Register to Vote Day on Tuesday.
At an event hosted by the nonpartisan Sioux City League of Women Voters on the Western Iowa Tech Community College campus, a dozen people signed up over the first two hours.
Then a few minutes later, three more presented and filled out the necessary materials. Matt Pfister had just moved over from Nebraska, and two young women registered to vote for the first time.
Brihanna Mejia and Evnna Delgado of Sioux City said they are looking forward to voting, with gas prices and immigration policies as top of mind issues for them.
“It is important to know what you are voting for and why you are voting,” Mejia said.
Kachia Nguyen walked by the registration materials setup.
“This is awesome,” Nguyen said. “I always value voting, voting is your future. You want your life to improve. A lot of your future is in the government and what they do.”
There are 2.1 million registered voters in Iowa and more than 60,000 in Woodbury County.
