Amid an extended summer period in which gas prices in Iowa have been historically high, the average price for self-serve unleaded gas has again moved above the $4 mark again.
In late August, some big weekly jumps put Iowa in the rare position of having unleaded gas prices (of $4.13) that were higher than the national average.
The price in Iowa dropped by 14 cents per gallon last week on September 2. Then the new weekly summary this week rose by 17 cents, so the current average Iowa price is $4.06 per gallon, which is $1.22 cents more when compared to one year ago.
The national unleaded price is now $4.22.
Prices are from the American Automobile Association, as reported each Wednesday by the Iowa Department of Agriculture.
