An artist from Sioux City has been named as one of five people selected as a 2026-27 Iowa Artist Fellow.
Shelby Prindaville is the first person based in Sioux City to receive that honor, for a program that began in 2014.
Prindaville told Siouxland Public Media News, “I applied for this competitive honor, and Iowa Arts Council evaluators determined that my artwork exemplifies excellence and innovation, as well as public value and program readiness.”
Prindaville has been the Morningside University Art Department Chairwoman since 2019.
She has had numerous group and solo exhibitions in a host of art galleries in Siouxland and regionally, as well as nationally and globally.
A $10,000 award accompanies the state honor.
In serving as an Iowa Artist Fellow, some of Prindaville’s plans over the next year include hosting workshops in which she will make paper from locally harvested plants and fungi, making ink out of native black walnut hulls, and using agricultural drones to paint some of the handmade papers.
The other artists are Lovar Kidd of Cedar Rapids, Thomas Riefe of Davenport, Judy Bales of Fairfield, and Charles Borowicz of Des Moines.
