The City of Sioux City announced that officials will not move forward with either of the two finalists for the position of Sioux City Police Chief.
“This was not an easy decision,” City Manager Mike Collett said in a Wednesday release.
“My priority is to ensure the best outcome for our city and setting our next police chief up for long-term success.”
Two finalists were pinpointed in recent weeks, and some city officials said they wanted to pass on those two men and to start anew.
Public meet-and-greet meetings were held in early August for the two candidates, Scott Ebner and Robert Trebes.
The City will restart the recruitment process in the spring, using the Civic Leadership Search Partners firm under the existing contract.
Captain Ryan Bertrand will serve as interim police chief following the retirement of Chief Rex Mueller in November.
Bertrand has worked for the Sioux City Police Department for 24 years. He currently serves as Bureau Commander of the Uniformed Services Division, overseeing the department’s patrol operations.
