The process of selecting a new city of Sioux City police chief had a few notable steps last week, including Councilman Rick Bertrand saying he cannot support picking either of the two finalists.
There were public meet-and-greet meetings for the two candidates, Scott Ebner and Robert Trebes, in the middle of the week.
One day later on August 7, Bertrand said he was a “hard no” on those two men: “We have to show patience and take a deeper look at this hiring process and not just settle.”
On Monday afternoon, Mayor Bob Scott told Siouxland Public Media News he was out of the area and would not comment on Bertrand’s announcement. Scott said he first wanted to hear the recommendation from city manager Mike Collett on the police chief hiring process before answering if the process should be restarted.
Chief Rex Mueller will retire in October.
