The North Sioux City Commission approved an amendment to its agreement with Stockwell Engineers for the North Shore Bypass project in its meeting Monday.
According to a city memo, Stockwell submitted its design plans for the project in 2025. Since that time, the South Dakota Department of Transportation has changed its standards.
Jeff Dooley, city administrator of NSC, said the plans are being updated to reflect all of the DOT’s standard changes. The memo says DOT made changes to the bid items, plates and plan notes, and specifications for roads and bridges standards.
He added the DOT already gave Stockwell verbal consent to move forward.
The change increases the total cost of the project by about $29,700, which will be covered by grants. It also adjusts the maximum limit amount from $29,700 to $2.4 million.
Dooley said they are aiming to get the bid for the project in mid to late September.
The commission also discussed the Northshore Drive reconstruction project and the McCook Lake grading project. In June 2024, a fooding event severely damaged many homes and properties throughout the McCook Lake area.
