Officials with CNOS and Avera on Wednesday announced Avera’s acquisition of the CNOS practice based in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.
A release said this partnership includes over 100 CNOS physicians, advanced practice providers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and athletic trainers across nine specialties and subspecialities, for a total of more than 350 staff.
The union of the two entities becomes effective on January 1, 2027, with the name Avera CNOS.
Both organizations see opportunities to further strengthen health care delivery across the region, by combining the strong legacies of CNOS and Avera care.
“We had a long and thoughtful process, which included input from our stakeholders, on what CNOS was looking for in a partner,” said Nolan Lubarski, Chief Executive Officer of CNOS.
“It became very clear early in our conversations that our visions for the future of health care in this region were aligned."
CNOS formed in the 1990s and offers comprehensive care to the Siouxland region in Northwest Iowa. The group has grown through strategic alignments and mergers with other specialty practices, expanding clinical capabilities and providers. CNOS currently has 29 satellite locations.
Avera currently has two owned and four partner hospitals in Iowa, as well as 15 clinics and many outreach locations for specialty care.
“Avera has built a great network of clinics and hospitals across the Siouxland region. These locations already collaborate closely with the physicians at CNOS,” said David Flicek, Chief Operating Officer with Avera.
The Avera central office is based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with six regional centers:
