The Woodbury County Sheriff continues to advocate for adding public transportation that people can use to get to the county Law Enforcement Center.

During the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Sheriff Chad Sheehan for Woodbury County talked about the need for public transportation to be available to the building that holds courts and the jail.

Sheehan noted he also spoke to the Sioux City Council on Monday evening about the issue, asking them to consider a bus route that stops at 28th Street, the Agape Center, and the LEC.

He asked County Supervisor Dave Dietrich, who serves on the LEC Authority, to consider allowing him to sit in one of the authority’s meetings or place it on its agenda.

During the city council meeting, Sheehan said he wanted the route to provide equal access for “lower socioeconomic” community members to the criminal justice system.

Sheehan was referring to those who need to get to the LEC to serve on a jury, victims or witnesses to crimes who want to speak with the county attorney, or visit their loved ones.

He mentioned the discussion on the bus line issue has been going on for over three years.

The prior county jail was located in downtown Sioux City, and the new one that opened in fall 2024 is on the city's far northeast edge.
