More headway is being made with construction work addressing flooded parts of North Sioux City.

The North Sioux City Commission received an update regarding the Northshore Drive reconstruction project in its meeting Monday.

Jeff Dooley, city administrator of North Sioux City, said all the work east of Penrose Drive has been completed except for the installation of three storm sewer inlets. That work will proceed once MidAmerican Energy relocates its gas main.

He added crews are continuing with other utility work in the area between Penrose Drive and Dakota Valley Elementary.

Dooley mentioned that the utility contractor expects within the next couple of weeks the utility work will be completed.

Additionally, phase one of the McCook Lake grading project has been stalled, with it sitting at 40 percent complete.

In June 2024, a flooding event severely damaged many homes throughout the area and the existing Northshore Drive.
