The Sioux City Council approved the first reading of a traffic ordinance for utility vehicles within city limits in its meeting Monday.
According to a city memo, the ordinance allows UTVs to operate on city streets, but there are limitations.
It says when creating the ordinance city staff considered noise, nuisance, and traffic safety and included regulations regarding the issues in the ordinance.
Some of the regulations prohibit the vehicles from operating on trails, educational facilities, and public cemeteries. The UTVs are allowed in alleys and one-or two-lane streets.
Any violation of the ordinance’s regulations may result in a fine.
