As the heat remains at high temperatures, the Warming Shelter in Sioux City is preparing to help more people than usual.
The Warming Shelter provides services to people who are experiencing homelessness. Services include emergency housing, meals, and mental health support.
Shayla Moore, executive director of the Warming Shelter, told Siouxland Public Media there has been an increase in the number of people the shelter is helping.
Moore said the shelter is stocking up on water, packing lunches for clients, and making sure the staff knows the extreme weather protocols.
She added that anyone is allowed in the shelter under the extreme weather conditions.
Moore said the warming shelter has been serving 125 people during the day for the past few days. She also mentioned that at night the shelter is serving more people than normal.
