The 185th Air Refueling Wing held a ceremony on Saturday revealing its 270th Contingency Response Squadron.

According to the Air Force Expeditionary Center, a contingency response squadron is a specialized rapid deployment unit. The CRS units can be stationed at remote or damaged locations to establish and operate temporary airfields.

CRS units assist with combat operations and global humanitarian and relief efforts.

Authorities with the 185th noted that the construction of the CR took a couple of years, as first reported by KCAU. However, the 270th currently has 62 members and continues to fill positions.

Major Sam Otto, Director of Operations with the 270th CRS, said the airmen have diverse backgrounds, allowing them to be adaptable and assist with a specific need.

Otto added that the Air National Guard has about 11 other squadrons similar to the 270th.
