The Woodbury County Democrats announced Friday that they will hold a special nomination convention for the Woodbury County Board of Supervisor seats.

A special nominating convention is a process used by political parties in the county to place candidates on an election ballot when a vacancy occurs or if a seat lacks representation following a filing period.

According to a release, to get candidates on the November ballot, a convention will be held during the organization’s monthly central committee meeting. It will provide community members a chance to hear from the four democratic candidates who hope to fill the seats.

There are three candidates for District 2, which includes northern and western parts of Sioux City: Michael Bayala, Jody House, and Maria Runduist. The democratic nominee will face Republican incumbent Daniel Bittinger.

Brittney Wilson is the sole Democratic candidate seeking nomination for District 4, which covers portions of Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff. However, for Wilson to be placed on the ballot, her nomination must be formalized at the special convention. Matthew Ung currently holds the seat for District 4 and announced he was not seeking reelection.

The convention will be held at the Gleeson Room in the Sioux City Public Library at 6pm.
