Local elections broadened June primary ballots in South Dakota for first time

The number of elections on the primary day in South Dakota this year was more expanded than ever before.

It was an unusually busy primary election for many South Dakota auditors offices, as they carried out a new law that added numerous local races to the typical statewide political contest.

Therefore, there are some new school board and city commission members in Southeast South Dakota.

Those elected include Vincent Tucker to the North Sioux City Commission, William ames to the Vermillion School Board and Erik Hanson and Traci McDonald to the Elk Point-Jefferson School board

South Dakota News Watch reported a new law was what increased the number of ballot contests beyond the closed Republican and Democratic party primaries for state offices for governor and similar positions.

Ron Fisher, of Rapid City, was determined to vote on Tuesday, even if he had to take public transit to the downtown library to do so and even if he could only vote in one City Council precinct.
